Case Study — Pink Gin

Pink Gin is already known since the mid of the 19th century but has seen it’s revival in the last years. Like all the trends from the Food & Beverage industry the question is will it last and what can we learn from it?

The Pink Gin Cocktail is a drink which is relatively simple to make. You take a Plymouth Gin, spice it up with a few drops of Angostura Bitter and garnish it with lemon slices. Originally it was made to cure sea sickness.

However today it is produced as a convenient beverage to stand out in the shelf and attract the eye of the customer. The challenge behind the product is to create a color which

  1. does not fade away when it is exposed to direct sunlight,
  2. is stable in alcohol,
  3. only uses natural colors to create a bright pink color.

It was a tough task but in the end as you see we managed to create a product which works perfect in those conditions. The question however is if the trend will last. In the end nobody knows but we learned a lot about the challenges and little stumbling blocks for which we have to look out when we develop products for the beverage industry. So we are ready for the next trends and ideas!
